20 MORE REASONS TO VISIT BLACKPOOL AND ENJOY A STAY AT THE HOLMSDALE.

If you haven't been to Blackpool for a while you'll be surprised what changes have taken place - take a look for yourself.

 

1 - Blackpool Tower 

Merlin Entertainments (Britains largest entertainment company)  have taken over the Tower and have invested  another £10 million in the Tower Dungeon the Tower Eye with a new observastion deck and 4D cinema plus upgrading of many of the favourite features.  For the first time ever there will be free entrance to the Tower, you will only pay for the parts you use.

 

2 - Nickelodeon Land

Costing £10.5 million, this opened at the Pleasure Beach in April 2011, plus another big, exciting ride. For 2012 there are major changes taking place to the revolution and Valhala rides.

 

3 - Blackpool  Trams 

The final phase of The new tramway is complete ready for Easter which means that the oldest working tramway in the world will have been modernised fit for the 21st Century. The heritage trams will also run along side the new trams for tour rides.

 

 4 - Ma Kellys

 Just across the road from Funnygirls Blackpools most popular Cabaret bar is just a few minutes walk from the Holmsdale. Live entertainment from lunch to the early hours every day.

 

5 - Sandcastle Waterpark 

The UK's largest indoor waterpark  has invested over £2m in 2 new Aztec themed water slides launching from the roof.

 

6- North Shore Club

Just yards from the Holmsdale is the newly refurbished North Shore sports and social club.  Big screen TVs, all sporting events regular live entertainment, bingo, raffles, poker, good food, sunday lunches.

 

7 - The Sands Venue

Where you can enjoy a delicious 3 course meal followed by the best live entertainment, with delightful service and beautiful

8 - Madame Tussauds 

Our Louis Tussauds has been  completely revamped and upgraded by Merlin to become a Madame Tussauds and ready for this coming season.

 

9 - Winter Gardens  

 

In March 2010 Blackpool Council purchased the Winter Gardens. The Winter Gardens is undergoing a major programme of refurbishment projects that has already seen extensive work to the entrances, Dome and Floral Hall, and the opening of the two new dining options under the operation of Heathcotes Outside. Regular heritage tours of the park are now available.

 

 

10 - Blackpool Zoo  

The 32-acre Blackpool Zoo is home to more than 1,500 animals. A refurbished and extended main restaurant, has opened and an outside dining area was completed at a cost of £350k

The second phase of the investment programme has seen a £500k relocation and expansion of the Children's Farm.

 

11- Cleveleys Prom.  

Cleveleys has a brand new and award winning promenade with uninterrupted beach access - it's a fabulous public space for everyone to enjoy, winter and summer!'Cleveleys also has a thriving and very popular high street ajacent to the prom. 

 


12 - Brilliance 

A fantastic town centre  sound and lighting scheme. A themed all year round Town centre illumination spectacle culminating in a centre piece sound and light show in Birley Street.

 

 13 - St John's Square 

This is a large new pedestrianised piazza along with new planting, paving and lighting to enhance the character, appearance and atmosphere of the area. With the addition of regular events the Wave sculpture, blue glass artwork and WiFi connectivity this area has become one of the most well utilised public spaces within the town centre.


14 - Houndshill Shopping Centre 

 

The redevelopment of the Houndshill Shopping Centre has brought a threefold increase in shopping space. It includes a  new Debenhams along with an array of popular high street stores such as H&M, Next, River Island, Primark and Faith.

 

15 - Stanley Park. 

Benefiting from a five million pound Heritage Lottery Fund restoration in 2007. The 390 acre Park and lake is a masterpiece of landscape design and historical splendour. Regular heritage tours of the park are now available.

 

16 - rent a bike

 

A NEW cycle hire service for Blackpool!

Bikes are available to hire from automated stations on the prom. Blackpool is full of exciting places to visit on your bike. The Promenade provides a unique route with panoramic views of the beautiful coast and easy access to many of our famous attractions along the Golden Mile. Alternatively, you could take a ride around the beautiful Stanley Park, Herons Reach or even visit Blackpool zoo. Each of these places offers you a well earned leisurely break before you cycle on to your next destination. 24hrs a day, 7 days a week

 

17 - South Pier 

The owners of South Pier have unveiled £8m plans to transform it into a state of the art family entertainment centre. This development will be open all year round.

 

 18 - The Promenade and Beach 

The sea wall has been replaced with 6 new headlands each extending 60 meters seaward (the size of a football pitch). A series of 'Spanish steps' leading down to the sea completes this £65m programme and increases public access to the seafront.


19 - Tower Festival Headland

A 20,000 capacity outdoor events space on the promenade in front of the Tower is nearing completion. As a centre piece a 'comedy carpet' art installation will be laid that will immortalize comedy catchphrases and create a real visitor attraction on the headland when events are not taking place. This scheme will also include a new café/restaurant, fantastic lighting and unparalleled views out onto the Irish Sea.


20 - Gateways to Blackpool 

The Beach - Southern Gateway

 This transformed area of the promenade has revitalised the southern entry into Blackpool, and extended the seaside experience for visitors. Complemented by public art, including the world's largest mirror ball and a modern lighting scheme. This stretch of the Promenade is now used frequently by pedestrians and cyclists seeking to enjoy the fantastic views over the Irish Sea.   

Central gateway. In May 2006 Laurence Llewelyn Bowen  opened Blackpool's newest park and a brand new entrance into the resort. It includes 650 parking spaces, a children's play area, a multi-use games area, a bouldering wall and two 20 metre high climbing towers.

In 2009 Seasiders' goalkeeper Paul Rachubka unveiled the second phase of improvements covering the area north of Bloomfield Road adjacent to Blackpool Football Stadium. Key components of this entire project include remodelled parking, landscaping and traffic management improvements, which have all helped immensely, just in time for Blackpool Football Club's elevation into Premiership status!.
